A series of sociological surveys in Hungary show that shifts in Hungarians’ values after the collapse of communism had largely reversed by 1993, presaging the electoral victory of ex-communists the following year. But the most recent survey shows that reversal to have been only a temporary setback to the dismantling of the socialist value system.
