Spring demonstrations in Belarus did not have any economic dimension but were strictly political protests against President Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s policies. The persistence of the demonstrations raises two questions: how much opposition to the president actually exists in Belarus, and to what lengths will Lukashenka go to suppress it?
