LOOKING AT RUSSIA:For Poland, More Distance Leads to Less Enmity

A rival of Russia for centuries, then partitioned in the 18th century among Russia, Prussia, and Austria, Poland fought against Russian armies in the 19th and 20th centuries for its independence – and that long and bitter history has not bred trust. Still, if Russia abandons its imperial ambitions, there is a possibility now for better relations between the two countries.
